Summary: Your journal entries are stored locally on your device and never uploaded to our servers. When you use AI coaching, only the content you choose to share is processed — we do not retain or log your personal reflections.
Our Principles
Journaling App is built with these privacy principles:
- Your journal is yours — we cannot read your entries
- Data collection is minimized to what's absolutely necessary
- Privacy policies should be clear and easy to understand
- You control what gets shared with AI coaching
Data Storage: What Stays on Your Device
The following data is stored exclusively on your device using your browser's local storage:
- All journal entries and personal reflections
- Your session history and diary
- AI coaching conversation history
- Your preferences and settings
- Card feedback (which cards resonated with you)
We have no ability to access, read, or recover this data. If you uninstall the extension or clear your browser data, this information will be permanently deleted.
Data Processing: What's Sent to Our Server
When you use certain features, some data is sent to our server for processing:
AI Coaching Feature
When you tap "Coach me", the following is sent to our server:
- Your journal entry text (the content you wrote)
- Selected journaling template and intent
- Session preferences (tone, session length)
This data is:
- Transmitted securely over HTTPS
- Processed in real-time to generate coaching responses
- Not stored or logged on our servers
- Forwarded to our AI provider for processing (see Third-Party Services below)
Clip & Reflect Feature
When you select text on a webpage and use "Add selection to journal", you can choose whether this context is sent to AI coaching. A toggle allows you to keep the clipped text local-only if you prefer.
Card Images
Metaphorical card images are loaded from our server. This is a simple image request and does not include any personal information.
Third-Party Services
AI Language Model Provider
AI coaching responses are generated using third-party large language model (LLM) services. When you use coaching:
- Your journal content is sent to the AI provider for processing
- We use providers that do not train on user data (API usage)
- The AI provider may retain data temporarily for abuse prevention, per their policies
Hosting & CDN
Our website and API are served through Cloudflare, which may collect standard web traffic logs (IP addresses, request timestamps) for security purposes.

Install & Usage Analytics
We collect minimal, anonymous analytics to understand how the extension is used:
- Install and uninstall counts (no personal identifiers)
- Welcome page and uninstall feedback page visits
- Optional feedback you choose to provide
We do not use third-party analytics services like Google Analytics. We do not use tracking cookies.
Server Logs
Standard server logs may include IP addresses for security and troubleshooting. These are periodically deleted and not used for tracking.
Information We Do NOT Collect
To be explicit about what we don't collect:
- Your journal entries (these stay on your device)
- Your browsing history or activity outside the extension
- Personal identifiers (name, email) unless you contact us
- Device fingerprints or unique identifiers
- Location data
- Data from other extensions or apps
Extension Permissions Explained

We request only the minimum permissions necessary for the extension to function.
Data Security
- All data stored locally uses your browser's built-in security
- All communication with our servers uses HTTPS encryption
- We do not store sensitive user content on our servers
- Our server infrastructure follows security best practices
Important: Since your journal is stored locally, you are responsible for your device's security. We recommend backing up important reflections externally if desired.
Your Rights & Choices
- Access: Your data is on your device — you have full access
- Deletion: You can delete any journal entry, or uninstall the extension to remove all data
- Opt-out of AI: You can save journal entries without using coaching ("Save without coaching")
- Clip & Reflect privacy: Toggle whether clipped text is sent to AI
- Export: You can view and copy your journal entries at any time
Children
Journaling App is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
International Users
Our servers are located in Europe. If you access our services from other regions, please be aware that your information may be transferred to and processed in Europe. By using the extension, you consent to this transfer.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. For significant changes, we may notify users through the extension. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
