By installing or using the Journaling App browser extension ("Extension") or accessing our website at journalingapp.app ("Website"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use our services.
Description of Service
Journaling App is a Chrome browser extension that helps you reflect, gain clarity, and take action through structured journaling. The service includes:
- Structured journaling templates — guided frameworks for self-reflection (RAIN, GROW, WOOP, etc.)
- Metaphorical card imagery — visual prompts to inspire reflection (not fortune-telling or interpretation)
- AI-powered coaching — questions and prompts to help clarify your thoughts
- Local diary storage — your entries saved privately in your browser
- Clip & Reflect — save text from web pages as journaling context
The service is provided free of charge. No account or registration is required.
Important: Journaling App is a self-reflection tool, NOT a substitute for professional mental health care, therapy, or medical advice. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or emergency, please contact a qualified professional or emergency services immediately.
AI Coaching Disclaimer
The AI coaching feature uses artificial intelligence to generate reflective questions and suggestions. Please understand:
- AI responses are generated automatically and may not always be accurate or appropriate
- The AI is not a therapist, counselor, or medical professional
- AI coaching is intended for general self-reflection, not crisis intervention
- The AI does not "interpret" cards — it simply uses imagery as conversation prompts
- You should not rely on AI suggestions for important life decisions without consulting appropriate professionals
If the extension detects language that may indicate distress, it may show a supportive message encouraging you to seek appropriate support. This is not a diagnostic tool.
User Responsibilities
When using Journaling App, you agree to:
- Use the Extension only for lawful purposes and personal self-reflection
- Not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Extension
- Not redistribute, sell, or create derivative works based on the Extension
- Not use the service to generate harmful, illegal, or abusive content
- Take responsibility for backing up your own journal entries
- Maintain the security of your device and browser
Your Content
Your journal entries, reflections, and personal content remain entirely yours. We do not claim any ownership or rights to the content you create using the Extension.
Since all content is stored locally on your device:
- You are responsible for your content's security
- Uninstalling the Extension or clearing browser data will permanently delete your journal
- We cannot recover lost data under any circumstances
Intellectual Property
The Journaling App Extension, including its code, design, card imagery, prompts, and branding, is proprietary and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. All rights reserved.
You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Extension for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms.
Privacy
Your privacy is important to us. Please review our Privacy Policy for detailed information about how we handle data.
Key points:
- Journal entries are stored locally on your device — we cannot access them
- AI coaching requires sending your text to our server for processing
- We do not store or log your journal content on our servers
Third-Party Services
The Extension operates within browsers provided by third parties (such as Google Chrome). Your use of the browser is subject to that provider's terms of service.
AI coaching features use third-party language model providers. While we select providers with strong privacy practices, their services are governed by their own terms and policies.
We are not responsible for the functionality, availability, or policies of third-party services.
Disclaimer of Warranties
The Extension and Website are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that:
- The Extension will meet your specific requirements
- The Extension will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
- AI-generated content will be accurate, helpful, or appropriate
- Any errors in the Extension will be corrected
- Your data will be preserved indefinitely
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Journaling App or its creators be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, emotional distress, or business interruption, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Extension or Website.
This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory on which the claim is based, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability for certain damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability shall be limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Journaling App and its creators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising from your use of the Extension or violation of these Terms.

Termination
You may stop using the Extension at any time by uninstalling it from your browser. We reserve the right to discontinue the Extension or Website at any time without notice.
Upon termination:
- Your local data remains on your device until you delete it
- Access to server features (AI coaching, card images) will cease
- These Terms will no longer apply, except for provisions that by their nature should survive
Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the service shall be resolved in accordance with applicable law.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Journaling App regarding your use of the Extension and Website, superseding any prior agreements.
